Neurodevelopmental assessment

ADHD Assessment

A comprehensive assessment for children, young people and adults who may be experiencing difficulties with attention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, executive functioning or emotional regulation.

Understanding ADHD

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person regulates attention, activity and impulses. It shows up differently in everyone, and it often looks different in adults than it does in children.

ADHD isn't about intelligence or effort. Many people with ADHD are creative, energetic and resourceful — but may find that everyday demands like organising, focusing, remembering or waiting take far more energy than they should.

A formal assessment can help you understand why things have felt harder, and can open the door to the right strategies, adjustments and support.

Common experiences we explore

  • Difficulty sustaining attention or finishing tasks
  • Losing track of time, belongings or plans
  • Restlessness, fidgeting or feeling "driven by a motor"
  • Acting or speaking before thinking
  • Procrastination and difficulty getting started
  • Intense emotions and frustration
  • Feeling overwhelmed by organisation and planning

Who it's for

ADHD assessments for every stage of life

Children

When a child's attention, activity levels or impulsivity are affecting learning, friendships or family life. Parents, carers and school input help build a full picture.

Young people

For teenagers facing exams, growing independence and new pressures — an assessment can support access to reasonable adjustments in education.

Adults

Many adults have compensated for years. An adult ADHD assessment can explain long-standing patterns and support workplace adjustments.

What's involved

A thorough, evidence-based assessment

Our clinicians take the time to understand the whole person — not just a checklist of symptoms.

  1. Questionnaires

Standardised rating scales and questionnaires, completed by you and — where appropriate — family, carers or school.

  2. Developmental history

Background information about early development, education, health and how things have changed over time.

  3. Clinical interview

A structured interview exploring attention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, executive functioning and emotional regulation.

  4. Outcome & report

A clear explanation of the outcome and a written report with findings and recommendations.

ADHD assessment FAQs

Your questions, answered

What is an ADHD assessment?

An ADHD assessment is a structured clinical process that explores attention, activity levels, impulsivity, executive functioning and emotional regulation, alongside developmental history. It determines whether a person's experiences meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis and what support may help.

Can adults be assessed for ADHD?

Yes. ADHD often continues into adulthood and many adults are only recognised later in life. We assess adults of all ages.

Can children and young people be assessed for ADHD?

Yes. For children and young people, we gather information from parents or carers and, where appropriate, from school, to build a complete picture.

How long does an ADHD assessment take?

It depends on the individual and their age. We'll explain the expected timescales — including questionnaires, the assessment appointment and your report — when we respond to your enquiry.

Does the assessment include medication?

Our service focuses on assessment, diagnosis and post-assessment guidance. Where appropriate, your report will include recommendations that you can share with your GP or another healthcare provider to discuss treatment options.

Will I receive a written report?

Yes. A written report is provided following assessment, setting out the findings, the clinical reasoning and any recommendations.
